I mentioned a few posts back that we were painting our master bedroom.......well we're DONE! We all know the JOY of a project scratched off the old to do list. We have been at this home for a wee bit over four years now and it is far from where it used to be. It still has some things to go.....but little by little , bit by bit ( as funds allow) we are building our nest! I told DH he'd better like what we did to our room because it will probably stay that way for the next 30 or so years!! LOL our kids will all grow up and say ......"that house it SO 2008!!!!" Hee heee......I forgot to take a REAL before picture so here's kinda half way through.
The walls in this room were never finished out and were left a flat white construction primer. The first frugal thing we did was use the leftover buff color we had from the bathroom redo.....yes, we could have changed colors totally but we had a whole gallon leftover so we decided to go with that.....plus it's nice and neutral.....something that's calming and good for resale if we ever need to move-lets hope not!! Also neutrals are a good choice because I can change out the bedding and other items with whatever colors we like and it will still all go together. The only thing we bought new was the bedding and even that we got lucky with! It was a steal at Walmart for $49.99! Our funiture came from goodwill a few years back and it is GREEN- hard to match. But the price was right and they are quality pieces......the original plan was to paint them white but it hasn't happened yet. Over the years they may eventually end up painted over as the original paint is rough.....right now it lends to the rustic charm! The curtains came with the house when we moved in but were in the kitchen.....they have been boxed up for 4 years now.....but low and behold, they looked great in the bedroom ....so they were FREE!!! The picture over the bed is an old paint by number that I got free when I helped clean out a basement....it is country and has 3 little boys flying a kite- it has always reminded me of my 3 boys so I am very happy to have a home for it! The frame was one that we rescued from our Goodwill pile- it used to be silver and came from my Mom's home. It was the right size....so DH painted it a nice chocolate brown and we added the other painting over the one that used to be there....again- FREE!!! There are two other little pictures in the room that are just both pages from a calender that I saved one year......it's amazing what a nice frame will do! I may end up adding a wreath or some greenery or a wrought iron bird cage if I can find one at a yard sale or a thrift store somewhere....that's something to keep an eye out for. So here is our humble room - all finished....and I can rest now with a very big smile on my face!
