I used to work for the state's WIC ( women , infants & children) program a few years back as a breastfeeding counselor. This was one of the only jobs that I took outside the home.....well it was half at home ...half at the "office" I would meet 2x a week with parents and children ( nursing teams) to help them with problems or work with expecting mom's who's hope's were to BF. The other days were at home....I would log phone call hours to those at home who needed support. The state advocated breast first....but would offer help with formula to those who could not or chose not to BF.......that was a very rewarding job
SO on to Angle Food Ministries.....One of my favorite places for saving money on groceries, or for purchasing a blessing for a needy family, is Angel Food Ministries. I first learned about this ministry through my WIC job......but more recently have put a friend who was in a crisis situation in touch with them....Angel Food Ministries works to provide grocery relief to communities throughout the US. It is completely free to participate and there are no income limitations or forms to fill out. The non-denominational program works with local community churches and organizations to provide boxes, or "units," of food to people at the cost of $25 per unit. Each month your local host site will collect orders and payment, then about 2 weeks later you bring your own box or a laundry basket to pickup your order. To find a host site in your town, go to: http://www.angelfoodministries.com/ .The unit contents are different each month, and each unit is generally considered to be at least a $50 dollar value. To see what this month's menu is for your area, go to: http://www.angelfoodministries.com/menu.asp.asp Once you purchase a unit either for yourself or someone else, you also have the option of three special packages as add-ons to your order, each for a substantial discount over grocery store prices. This could be a wonderful help to your own grocery budget to help your food dollar go further....or a real blessing to help a family in need ....When I was working at WIC....I found most families had never heard about this ministry....so I just wanted to share about it :D It might also be a wonderful blessing you could donate to a needy family with Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up so soon!!!
