Koolickles: Candy Pickles

What the heck is a koolickle? I have NO idea....but I was told about them and just HAD to try it. So here is my attempt at what I would classify as a funky food. Apparently it's a really popular kid treat down south. Is it just me or do they eat all sorts of fun foods down that way. I am NOT super food adventurous....but I do love pickles so I'm going to attempt these. Here's the official recipe, my changes will follow:
Kool-Aid Pickles (koolickles)
Start to finish: 5 days, 30 minutes active
Makes one 46-ounce jar of pickles
46-ounce (1 quart 14 ounces) jar whole dill pickles
1 cup sugar
2 cups water
2 packets red Kool-Aid (such as cherry flavored)
Drain and discard the juice from the pickle jar. Remove the pickles from the jar and cut each one in half lengthwise. Return the pickles to the jar and set aside. In a large measuring cup, combine the sugar, water and Kool-aid. Mix until the sugar has completely dissolved. Pour enough of the liquid into the pickle jar to cover the pickles. Discard any excess. Cover the jar and refrigerate 5 days, eat and enjoy.

My Recipe (Using what I had on hand)
1 24 oz jar dill pickle spears
2 cups water (that was the amount of liquid that came out of the jar so that's what I used....you just want it to cover the pickles)
1 pack sugar free cherry Koolaid (I figured since the original recipe seemed like twice the amount of pickles of mine that one pack would be enough...I don't know if sugar free will affect them, but I doubt it! My pickles have ZERO calories and so does the sugar free koolaid so if it tastes good it will still be a ZERO calorie snack...woOT!)
Drain pickles, mix packet in 2 cups water, fill jar, into the fridge you go!
I'll have to check back in a week with a taste test! If you have made these before.....did you like them??
