Sales: Chicken & Eggs

Chicken is on sale this week!!! We really like chicken at this house...is there anything one can't do with chicken?? Whole chickens are on sale for .69 cents a pound and leg quarters are .49 cents a pound...that's about as cheap as I can find any meat right now....around the holidays, turkey can be found around .49 cents a pound too and I would suggest if you have freezer room to get more than one. We have for the past few years that we've had our extra freezer....but anyway, I am going to stock up on chicken for the freezer today.....I'm not sure how much I'll get but I've had a little leftover money in the budget and this seems like a sensible purchase. Do you buy ahead when deals hit your local grocery? I think overall this saves me a ton of money throughout the year. Eggs are on sale too .69 cents a dozen and we use a lot of them here also....there are tons of dishes that use eggs and they are a good protein source, especially for large families. And if you bake a lot, you need them. Maybe I'll do an egg post one day of all the ways we use them! I would love to have my own chickens for the eggs.....I do not think I would butcher them myself, but the fresh eggs are SO good!! DH's Mom has a farm and used to bring us fresh eggs when we first married....they have since gotten older and don't have chickens anymore and boy do I miss those eggs. I'm not sure if we're allowed them here, I'll have to check zoning...but we do have room. Maybe one day!!

*Edit Back in: I got eight 5(ish) pounders for the freezer it was around $30...the sale is good all week so on Friday when I get new Grocery money in I'll try for 8 more or whatever I can squeeze out to stock the freezer with. I decided on just the whole chickens this time, but maybe Friday I'll get some leg quarters too! If you're new here...we are a family of 6...if you have less, you may not need or even want that much chicken around!!! LOL!

Hi Shannon! How LUCKY you are to get to have chickens!! I've always wanted some...but I don't think were allowed(zoned for it) where I currently live :( I'll put together some of my favorite egg recipes and tips soon, but I'd bet with chickens YOU could teach me a thing or two!
