Autumnal Reflections

The first official week of school is over. It went very well. It's always nice when things in life run smoothly. I'm still adjusting to the early wake up. 6 am and I have never really been true friends....but I'm trying very hard! I always do like it more when I get up early....so much time to get things done...even extra things.....or just nice time to linger over hot coffee and the Word. But just because I like it more...doesn't mean it's easier to do!

Fall is coming fast and for us that means more house projects as the yard work goes away. We have been in this home for about 7 years now and have recently discovered that the roof was put on wrong! The roof was only a few years old when we bought the home. It's always been HOT hot hot upstairs so DH finally cut a spot in the ceiling upstairs to get a look see. Turns out the roof ridge vent is sealed off!! We have since contacted the roofer about the installation error and they are going to set an appointment to come see. We are hoping that they will fix this for us free and make it right....please send up prayers that they will make it right! This repair will so help with our energy costs in heating and cooling this home.

Is anybody else looking forward to chilly nights...hot soups and warm baked breads? I am!!! I'm even thinking ahead to a chili party with my family....2 or 3 big vats of chili- white chicken chili, regular homemade type and maybe a Cincinnati type chili....YUM- cheese, crackers and cornbread to round it all out! I've been thinking about making a separate entertaining notebook with recipes for a crowd at my fingertips. When my DH's side all gets together that's about 25...my side is easy with only about 12. I'd like to get more organised in that area as it can be a source of stress for me at times! If you've got some great bulk recipe large crown dishes ...please feel free to share! I may blog about it as I get going. Hints and tips on easier entertaining appreciated too! Frugal choices are much appreciated also....I HAVE noticed both sides aren't getting together as much....it seems everyone is tighter right now....what a shame...people need to come together more not less during times of hardship.

As we wave a fond farewell to summer I hope everyone has a wonderful week ahead!

YES YES YES!!! Fall is my absolute FAVORITE time of year! I oove feeling all cozy and warm inside of my house while I am baking something wonderful for my family. Something about the cool air and the smell of the baking is the most amazing feeling!

I know I know! Some of our leaves are starting to drop....it's been very dry here in Ohio! While my kids were out swimming last night I strolled around the yard and under my feet was the crisp crunch crunch of dried leaves...it was fun! We probably won't get the super pretty reds and golds for very long here because most trees are just plain dried out.... :(
