I found this little book for 25 cents on half price day at my local thrift store....like 50 cents wouldn't have busted the budget or anything...but HEY!!! I'm all for a good bargain!!! This is a FUN little book that I've been test driving the past few days. It's filled with great recipes and smart tips for blenders. I honestly have hardly used mine over the years....but recently I've made pancakes, coleslaw, soup, dressings, whipped eggs for scrambled (why this never dawned on me over the years to use the blender I'll never know!!! Sometimes I'll do as many as 18 for our family of 6- 3 per person) and of course for smoothies (that's mostly all I've ever used it for). I'd like to dip into this books' chapter on bread! Yep...sounds intersting to me too and we'll see how it goes....just look at that gorgeous loaf on the cover! Here's one cool thing to share....old school cooks probably already know this but it's fallen out of fashion! Did you know a blender used to come with one standard mouthed pint mason jar? Well it DID! HA!! You can turn your blender into a chopper! (now a days "they" secretly just want to sell us yet another space hoggin gadget) SO here we go....put your item to chop into the mason jar...screw on the blender base (yes it fits!), flip over and chop! I did nuts for brownies we made today.....to go with our smoothies for snack! Here's the coolness in pictures:
Pretty cool eh? I know.....I live the simple life and things like this make me HAPPY....and YES I AM AWARE of how strange that makes me sound- almost like a nut-LOL !!!! Anyway, buy your nuts in bulk and chop them yourself to save a few pennies....then just store any leftovers in the mason jar in the fridge- nuts keep better that way as the oils won't spoil as fast. Heck since it RAINED today and we were totally BORED- the kids helped me snap pictures of the smoothies too....for your viewing pleasures.... We made strawberry bananna yogurt smoothies....don't forget to make your own yogurt...it's not hard....I'll blog about it one day soon...This is not really a recipe....you just throw it all in at any amounts...whir it up...then YUM!
We had to add some plain water to thin it all out cuz the yogurt was a thick batch this time. Hey here's a sneaky parent tip...if your kids hate their vitamins....crush a pill or two and whir it up in there....they'll NEVER know !
