Red Velvet Christmas Cookies

If you haven't tried cookies from a cake mix yet, then you are just missing out on about THE most EASY way to make cookies!!! With Christmas coming I always bake the bottoms, then freeze them up so I can take them out and frost when needed. Here's my post with the cake mix recipe
Here. (Oh, I no longer roll the dough into balls....I just use 2 spoons then flatten them a bit.....the red velvet cake mix WILL stain your hands red if you don't use spoons, trust me here :) ).

These beautiful Red Velvet Cookies are made with the boxed cake mix and then topped with cream cheese frosting and I sprinkled mine with some homemade green sugar ( I KNOW you see red in that picture....but I later decided green was prettier). They bake up really red and are always a Christmas favorite! Try them!!!

Quick FRUGAL tip.....PLEASE DON'T pay the over priced amount for cute little shaker bottles of colored sugar..... you CAN make your own! Get a zipper baggie, or small Tupperware bowl with a lid. Put in about 3/4 a cup regular sugar then add 5 to 15 drops of liquid food coloring to the bag. Seal up tight....

Then squish, shake...mush and manhandle that baggie all up.....then prest-o change-o just like magic, you have colored sugar to decorate with!!! If the color isn't dark enough add more drops till you get it just right OR if you've gotten it too dark, just add more sugar to lighten it!

Happy Baking my Fru-GAL friends!!!!
