Cooking with Kids Series: Part 1

I have four wonderful children that bless my life to no end! I have recently determined to teach them all to learn their way around a kitchen. I never did much in the past but the basics (cookies, sandwiches...etc.) when they were little because it was just too hard with that many little hands wanting in! Of course I want my daughter to be able to be a good cook for her family when she marries and becomes a keeper of her very own home....but I also want my boys to be able to feed themselves well during the interim of life when they leave our home , before they may find a good wife. Plus being able to cook a few items could really be a blessing to a future wife during sick and pregnant times! My DH can fend for himself in the kitchen and has blessed me many times over the years although he prefers I do the main cooking....and I do too !

I don't think it matters right now "what" I teach them to cook....just to let them get the feel of the whole process and get to know the equipment...so I'm going to introduce my four darlings over the next few days with a meal they each helped me cook! With the plan being to include them way more over the summer break!! First up is my most beautiful jewel, N~. This is her favorite meal....shrimp scampi served over angel hair pasta. There is no recipe. I just get a box of frozen shrimp scampi...cook it, then boil some noodles! Easy....but a good start on basic kitchen skills!

Dinner's served!!

How very sweet of you Charlotte...thank you =) Do you have any children? If so I bet they are equally blessed.....if not well then you will get to mentor many with your canning blog!! That is an almost lost skill that people need to learn right now! Have a great day!!

This is a great idea...you are making memories as well as teaching life skills. I just read somewhere recently (on one of the many blog that I peruse)this mom decided to make a cooking scrapbook with her daughter. She put the recipes that they made together, along with some photos. It would be an ongoing project over the years and when her daughter leaves home one day, she can take the scrapbook/cookbook with her. I am planning to do something like that with Bonnie Kate.

That is a WONDERFUL idea Deidra! I'm not very creative in the scrapbooking area but I could at least start a simple cookbook or recipe box! I may try something like that! They're growing up too fast for me! =)
