Why kale chips?? Because they sounded interesting...
LOL! I keep seeing recipes on the net...apparently they're an "in" thing. Well they are not in at my house. Don't get me wrong....I liked them well enough to make them again but the family....big fat
NO. Oh well, was
hoping it was a clever way to
sneak some more greens in. Well I did come up with a super sneak that I'll share later. Kale chips are easy to make....kinda strange to eat. Kinda like paper. At first they fool you....yummy~ crunchy, salty...kinda chip like....but then as soon as the moisture in your mouth hits it...bamo...plain old kale...haha...which I happen to like....but could NOT
convince the kiddos to go for. So I cheated and bought the bag of
pre washed and cut kale. Don't do this. Get a bunch...the reason: The
bagged stuff is too wet and the thick stems are not cut out....so it's harder to dry them out. Oven temp was suggested at 425 but that went too fast and it's easy to burn them so I reduced to 375 for about 15- 20
mins....that left the kale dry and green still with no burns. You will Need:
Kale Chips1 bunch or bag kale1 olive oil
spray ( I used canola
cuz that's what I had)
Salt
Put kale on tray, spray lightly with oil, add salt, bake @ 375 15-20
mins or till dry- your oven may vary.
Ok so that's what I did. Nobody really liked them but me.....
boowho :( So what do I do with all those kale chips? I didn't want to eat them all by myself....that's a lot of kale for one gal. Share with the neighbors? They may think I'm strange. Just who comes over with kale chips anyway??? HAHA! So being the
fugalista that I hope I am....I noted all the broken bits in the bottom...so I got the bright idea to crunch the whole lot up and turn it into a dupe for parsley. I used it on some roasted potatoes and sweet potatoes....the rest filled up my near empty parsley jar...everything got eaten with no complaints....LOL....epic SAVE! Kale...the new parsley....who knew....wink wink!
