I also spent some time on the computer at my library's web site. I was checking out some DVD's on homesteading and then searched under the book section. I typed in "frugal" and WOW was I surprised at the amount of books in there! 104!! 49 titles under "thrifty", 31 titles under "economical", and 14 titles under "cheapskate"!!! I did find many that I haven't read yet. This excites me to no end!! For 2 reasons 1:I'm sure I can still learn a thing or two and tweak my frugal ways and 2: Being that they are available at the library....all this new education won't cost a thing! WooHOO!!
I am currently reading a book suggested by Stacy over at Moderate Means called Suddenly Frugal.
I'm not done yet but so far have found it a good read. I have found one tip that will help me so far! Leah claims that if you shut off the heat dry on your dishwasher and you run at least one load a day (we do...sometimes two cuz I cook a lot) then that alone will save about $12 a week in energy costs or $624 a year! Oh my I can SO do that!! A simple flick of a switch and poof $624 saved....I'm so down with that. I have always used the heated dry out of habit and to be honest....we never needed it really as we almost never put the dishes away right after it's dry!!! She also talks about office equipment. My husband works from a home office 4 days a week and sometimes on Saturdays. I must admit we leave everything plugged in and sometimes the computer on through the night. A power strip with a single turn off she claims can save 10% off your electric bill annually. I'll have to talk to hubby about that one. I'm about half way through the book and based on the one dishwasher tip alone...this book has been worth the read! I'm gonna do a few book reviews as I find good frugal books and add any of the goodies to my ever growing list of frugal books in the right hand side bar. I hope you can find some time here and there to read some! These are NOT paid reviews and I'll have to deam a book useful and good (ie it actually lists helpful tips) for it to make it to the blog!
Hearts and Hugs,
Moxie
