Modonna and me had something in common recently.... the cone bra....
LOL! Let me explain. This is actually a frugal post...with some insights to how a frugal mind really works. I get free clothes....I call them grab bags. From friends...from my friends Moms....sometimes even from family. I never turn away anything free....if items in these bags don't work for me...well I just pass them right along. Most times....many things do work. So in one of my grab bags was a very cute swim suit. With an attached skirt and modestly cut...just my thing. Not too low in the bust....not too high in the thighs....plus it had one of those really cool...tummy panels to help hold in the mommy pooch. But the bust....hmmm. I have seen suits with built in bras before and most times those are nice...a little extra padding helps hide female parts that get cold and want to salute the world. But these things....OMGoodness! They brought WAY MORE attention to the bust line than I liked. The things popped out about 4 inches from my normal and were very conical too...not at all me. So Madonna! I could not pull off the look...at all, even on a good day...LOL!
Well my frugal mind just couldn't let an other wise great suit get passed along. Besides I had recently been to Walmart looking for one and the ONE (yes one) modest suit I could find was well over $40...too much for me. I have very rudimentary sewing skills so I thought I'd take a shot at ripping those things out. It worked! Me and my stitch ripper spent about 20 mins and now I have a nice swim suit that will last probably for the next two years. YAY! My son also had a suit that he got that had pockets which kept coming out while he swam. Instead of just getting a new one....I stitched the pockets closed. He is much happier and I saved a few bucks. YAY! Look at your clothes more often to see if they can be revamped or repaired before you just go get more. A ton of our shorts and my capris around here are last seasons pants and jeans with blown out knees that we cut off. I don't even sew these....I mainly use fusible hem tape that you iron on if we want a finished hem...so EASY! But some jeans look super cute cute with just a frayed hemline....very in right now!

Nice alterations! And too funny about the pointed cups! Don't you find yourself wondering, "Why did they design it like that?!"
