The Grocery Notebook #2
In The Grocery Notebook Post #1 I showed the notebook's specks and talked a bit about menus and food waste. Now lets take a peek at how I put all that together and use the thing! I use one page front and back for each shopping trip. On the front of the page I put the date in top right corner. Then on the top 4th of the page I write M, T, W, TH, F, S, S. These are for the days of the week. Next to each letter I place a meal I hope to cook. This is never set in stone. I may switch the days around or make something different on a whim or go out if I'm extra LUCKY. But I DO make sure that I have everything I need to make those meals. If I don't cook a meal then I'll usually circle it so next week I'll remember that I have everything already here at the house to make that meal....and usually I'll carry it over to the next weeks list. After I cook the meal, I'll check mark it off as cooked or scratch it out. If you see an asterisk next to something on the menu... that usually means the item is in my deep freeze. After the list of meals I then make a shopping list from there. The items I need are listed below the meal list. Then it's off to shopping! Items I couldn't or didn't get I circle on my grocery list...you'll see grapes circled here....well the grapes were probably terrible looking and I probably bought them later or just served a canned fruit out of the pantry......I don't remember, it was 2008!!! LOL! The last thing I do is write what I paid for it all and circle the total.
The very last thing I do is when I get home is I tape my grocery receipt and my gas receipts to the back of the page. I usually highlight what I paid for later reference
There is one last area that post #3 will cover then we'll wrap up. Have a wonderful Saturday!!!
