I got a COOL gift!
My brother brought me a gift over this weekend!! I was in shock at what it was! It was sourdough starter of all things!!! If you know my brother in real life then you're thinking "what the...?@#$%?!?" right along with me!! My brother is a man a can and a can opener type of "cook". I think it's really cool that he is taking the time to learn some new skills, especially baking....he really can cook but has a brilliant wife whom he leaves most this task too :) .I've never worked with sourdough so this will be new for me too. I'm planning on spending the next day or two reading up on it...I like the idea of not having to buy yeast all the time....that stuff is expensive! The next batch of dough I make for the refrigerator I will use his starter and see how it goes and what it tastes like I may have a flub or two as I'm not sure "how much" starter but I'll just wing it and eventually find the right ratio! I am going to adapt the recipe here. I still LOVE LOVE LOVE this recipe..the only reason to even attempt a change is that sourdough starter can be made at home-free ( well the price of flour and water ;) ) and that my brother brought me a whole mess of the bubbling good stuff to work with :D

That was very nice of your brother! I have never had much luck im keeping starter alive! LOL....
I am anxious to hear how this goes, I have sourdough starter but I just haven't started it yet...too afraid I guess!
Hi Kim!! I "hope" I don't kill mine too :) I have zip zero experience working with live/cultured food. I tried yogurt once or twice but couldn't keep it warm enough or got it too hot (tried in a crock pot) so it died. I still want to try it but want to buy a yogurt maker ;)
Hi Rachel!! I am afraid too !!!!But hey, as the saying goes....."do it afraid!" If it ends up a flop...I'll just make bread crumbs and plan meat loaf, meat balls or mac& cheese with a nice crumb topping later this week!!! :P :P
