I mentioned our little bunnies yesterday and since I have no other brilliant blog thoughts floating around in the old noggin I thought some cuteness would be fun for today...being Spring and all! So we have two bunnies, their names are Yoshie and Mario. Both are boys and are the much loved pets of my three young boys! Yoshie is an English spot who came as a babe from the pet store and Mario turned up on our property one year right before winter. His story is a bit sad. He came right up to me many times in my yard and was very friendly! Only trouble was it was nearing the really COLD time of year here and he seemed cold and hungry. I just know he was an abandoned pet....turned out to fare on his own. This is true because his winter coat was not out....meaning he "had" been living indoors.....poor guy, at least his parents could have waited till spring so he had a shot at making it! But he found his way to our home and we've loved him ever since! That year both bunnies lived inside. Now they are both full grown and have lived outside full time for nearly two years...they are valued members of our family and bring many smiles and JOY to our hearts!! We like to bring them inside for run time and play time with the family! Rabbits ARE messy and stinky so be aware of this if you want them indoors and they like to chew so watch them carefully....ie...DO NOT leave unattended if you value baseboards or electronics!!

Their home is a wonderful cage that my DH put his loving craftsmanship into. If you ever consider rabbits, know that you MUST commit to proper care for them. They are helpless without you, especially if you keep them outside, you must be actively involved with their care. They must be kept warm and dry in the winter and cool and dry in the summer (they get heat stroke easy) In the summer you must commit to keeping fresh water available a couple times a day (water in a bottle gets HOT fast!) And in the winter you must keep the water flowing....we found some nice electric heated water bottles that prevent freezing.....but you MUST keep checking them! Anyway if you love your bunnies as much as we do....they WILL get good care I'm sure!
